Scott H. Richardson
Principal

"No one has the corner on good ideas."Scott Richardson, a co-founding principal of RBC Richardson Barr, has more than 25 years of investment banking experience devoted exclusively to upstream clients. Mr. Richardson's transaction experience includes the sale of both public and private E&P companies, private and public debt transactions, fairness opinions, general advisory and asset divestitures.

RBC Richardson Barr is a leading U.S. A&D firm that advised on transactions in excess of $10 Billion in assets in 2011. Some notable assignments have included Enervest's $975 Million acquisition of Encana's Barnett assets, Linn's $600 Million acquisition of Plain's Granite Wash assets, and the $590 Million sale of North Plains Bakken assets to Kodiak.

Mr. Richardson co founded Richardson Barr, a predecessor firm to RBC Richardson Barr in January 2003. Mr. Richardson's professional speaking engagements include many to the SPE, Herold's, and the IPAA. He earned his BBA in Finance from Southern Methodist University.

   
   
Stephen L. Barr
Principal

"This business isn’t strictly about math or money. It’s about relationships." Steve Barr is a co-founding principal of RBC Richardson Barr Mr. Barr has been an oil and gas investment banker for 17 years, completing in excess of 100 transactions valued at over $10 billion. Mr. Barr's transaction experience includes asset divestitures, the sale of both public and private companies, asset swaps, general advisories, valuations, fairness opinions and restructure/reorganizations.

From 1987-2000, Mr. Barr was founding Managing Director of JP Morgan Chase's Oil and Gas Acquisition and Divestiture Group. He held various positions with JP Morgan Chase prior to this. In addition, Mr. Barr was the Managing Director and Co-head of the Houston office of Waterous & Co. from 2000-2003, where he supervised a 20-member team along with Mr. Richardson.

Prior to his investment banking career, Mr. Barr established himself as a petroleum engineer in the oil and gas industry for Exxon and Forest Oil, further testament to his particularly keen insight into the E&P upstream market.

In addition to memberships in various industry organizations, Mr. Barr served for ten years on the board of Alamco, Inc., a public oil and gas company in Appalachia. He is a Registered Professional Petroleum Engineer, member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers.

Mr. Barr holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas.

   
 

Donald L. Cordier,
Managing Director

Don Cordier joined RBC Richardson Barr in June, 2004. Mr. Cordier has over 30 years experience in the energy industry, with the last 10 years focused in M&A activity.  Mr. Cordier has focused on the general advisory and sell side divestiture business for RBC Richardson Barr.  His efforts have helped RBC Richardson Barr to become the leading A&D advisory firm in the U.S. 
Prior to RBC Richardson Barr, he was a Director in the Houston office of Waterous & Co., primarily responsible for the Business Development and deal execution of Waterous’ assignments in the US.  From 1988-2001, Mr. Cordier worked at Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. in various engineering and financial positions. Additionally, he worked at Equitable Resources, Inc. and Quaker State Corporation in several engineering roles.

Mr. Cordier holds a B.S. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He is a Registered Engineer in Pennsylvania and is member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Houston Producers Forum, Houston Energy Finance Group and the IPAA.
   
 

Craig R. Lande,
Managing Director

Craig Lande joined RBC Richardson Barr in June 2005. Mr. Lande has over 17 years of broad experience in the U.S. acquisition and divestiture market. Mr. Lande's transaction experience includes the sale of both public and private E&P companies, fairness opinions, general advisory and asset divestitures. Over the years, he has developed an extensive database that includes the acquisition and divestiture priorities of the majority of E&P companies in the U.S. Prior to RBC Richardson Barr, Mr. Lande worked in the Houston office of Waterous & Co. from 2001-2005 and served as a Vice President. Mr. Lande was actively involved in business development for the U.S. practice. He was also the creator and editor of the Quarterly Market Review, a newsletter focusing on upstream acquisition and divestiture valuations and trends.

From 1996 – 2001, Mr. Lande was a Senior Analyst with the energy investment banking firm Cornerstone Ventures, L.P. where he concentrated on corporate research and company and asset valuations.

Mr. Lande's professional speaking engagements include many to the SPEE, ADAM Energy Forum, Drilling Info and various Hart Energy Conferences.

Mr. Lande holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Marketing from Tulane University.

   
 

Randol Rodgers,
Managing Director

Randol Rodgers joined RBC Richardson Barr in 2008. Mr. Rodgers has more than 25 years experience in the energy industry in various technical, financial and business development roles. Prior to RBC Richardson Barr, he worked at organizations including Union Pacific Resources, TXO/Marathon and Cenergy Exploration, as well as serving as a founding partner of a successful private-equity backed E&P company.

Mr. Rodgers holds BSME and MBA degrees from Southern Methodist University. He is a Registered Petroleum Engineer (Texas) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.

   
 

Ben Bates,
Managing Director

Ben Bates joined RBC Richardson Barr in March, 2008. Mr. Bates has over 35 years experience in the energy industry, with most of the last 20 years focused in M&A activity.  Mr. Bates has focused on the sell side divestiture business for RBC Richardson Barr. 

Prior to joining RBC Richardson Barr, he was CFO and VP Strategic Development for Santos USA Corp. from 2003-2008 and Project Management team leader for Randall & Dewey from 1993-2003.  Additionally, he spent 18 years in various domestic and international affiliates of Amoco Corp., departing in 1993 as Director International Negotiations.

Mr. Bates holds a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard University.
